Main Sewer Connections

Here’s how the process works.

Get intouch with Lanson Civils. A engineer will arrarange a time and date convieniet for a site visit and do the following steps towards getting you connected.

1. Check for a Nearby Public Sewer

The first step is confirming that a public sewer is available near your property. Sewer maps can be obtained from your regional water company, such as Thames Water, Severn Trent, or Anglian Water.

2. Drainage Survey

A drainage contractor will inspect the site to determine:

Where the sewer is located

The depth of the sewer

The best point to connect

Whether gravity drainage or a pump is needed

3. Submit a Sewer Connection Application

Before work starts, a Section 106 sewer connection application must be submitted to the water authority. This includes drainage drawings and details of the proposed connection.

4. Approval from the Water Company

Once approved, the water company will confirm the connection method, pipe size, and installation requirements.

5. Excavation and Sewer Connection

A qualified contractor will then:

Excavate to the public sewer

Install new underground drainage pipes

Connect the property drain to the main sewer

Install inspection chambers if required

6. Inspection and Completion

The water company may inspect the work before it is covered. Once approved, the trench is backfilled and the area is fully reinstated.

Your property will then be officially connected to the public sewer network.
